Sanctuary of the Madonna del Bagno

The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Bagno outside Deruta contains an extraordinary collection of more than 700 maiolica ex-votives. The tiles are often inscribed with PGR (‘per grazia ricevuta’/for grace received) and are thank offerings for miraculous interventions of the Madonna that date back from the mid-17th century to the present day. A miraculous image of the Madonna in a cup discovered by a monk on this spot and attached to an oak tree was the origin of the sanctuary and can still be seen in the central chapel. #maiolica #ex-votives #deruta
