Meet Susan Wortman

The show of Susan Wortman AIR 2018 “Roman Winged Women send XO” was her personal response to Rome and her own experience in the form of porcelain figurines. “Arriving in Rome and being influenced by the sculptures throughout the city, I created a Roman series of “Winged Women” which began 15 years ago after being diagnosed with breast cancer. The winged women represent all of our scarred, stretched and imperfect bodies, however, the Roman winged women are elevated on pedestals similar to the sculptures I embraced on the streets, fountains and buildings in Rome. The XO represents both the graffiti on the buildings along with my sending hugs and kisses home to loved ones in my life.”
