Felice Ricci

Lori-Ann Touchette

Updated: Jun 14, 2022

Felice Ricci was a traditional potter in the medieval town of Vetralla. His studio in a grotto was equipped with a kick wheel and wood kiln. A visit there was like time-traveling to an earlier age, simpler but also austere. He dug his clay from a local vein of natural flameware, rich in iron. In the glaze firing, the slight reduction in the kiln at a higher temperature sometimes produced unexpected blue celadon which the potter viewed as a failure. Instead, they were the most extraordinary works in the studio. #romacittàdellaceramica #romeceramiccity #terracotta #ceramics #felicericci #vetralla #traditionalitalianpottery #wood-firedpottery @ Vetralla
