In the past, when a ceramic vessel ceased to function, it could be repaired or simply tossed out of the window or over the wall of the city. These shards come from a dirt road in one of the medieval towns on the lake of Bracciano which preserves the memory of time, revealing its treasures after heavy rainfalls. Ceramic fragments of the 15th-18th centuries: maiolica with painted or stamped decoration, red flameware & the wheel-thrown base of a vase (upper left). Tin glaze with decoration using metal oxides: iron (yellow), green(copper), brown/black (manganese) plus blue (cobalt). #romacittàdellaceramica #rome ceramic city #terracotta #ceramics #maiolica #metaloxides #cobalt #tinglaze
