C.R.E.T.A. Rome è lieta di invitarti alla mostra degli artisti Kelsey Duncan (USA) e Ginar Liu (Taiwan). Gli artisti presenteranno le opere create durante la loro residenza a CRETA Rome. Il vernissage della mostra si terrà in via dei Delfini 17, venerdì il 31 maggio ore 18:30. Con la figurazione in ceramica Duncan si relaziona con la monumentalità statuaria di Roma di cui ne crea una personale interpretazione mentre Liu si confronta con il mito dell’origine di Roma, trovando delle affinità con gli eventi della propria terra nativa.
C.R.E.T.A. Rome is pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition of the artists Kelsey Duncan (USA) e Ginar Liu (Taiwan). The artists will present the work created during their residency at CRETA Rome. The opening of the exhibition will be held in via dei Delfini 17, Friday 31 May from 18:30. With ceramic figuration, Duncan relates to the statuesque monumentality of Rome of which he creates a personal interpretation while Liu confronts the myth of Rome's origin, finding affinities with events in her native land.

Questo nuovo lavoro esplora la materialità e la longevità dell'oggetto scultoreo figurativo in relazione all'idea di un monumento. Sebbene queste opere non siano in scala monumentale, sono un'estensione della mia serie di monoliti, in cui le superfici ceramiche sono destinate a emulare oggetti costituiti da marmo, granito e calcare calcificato. Kelsey Duncan è un artista americano che attualmente vive a Nashville, nel Tennessee. Duncan ha conseguito la laurea in Belle Arti presso l'Università del Montana e il master in Belle Arti presso l'Università dell'Ohio. Ha ricevuto diverse borse di studio per artisti che gli hanno permesso di portare avanti una pratica di studio a tempo pieno attraverso 6 diversi programmi di residenza per artisti nazionali e internazionali. Il suo lavoro è stato esposto in mostre collettive e personali in tutti gli Stati Uniti e nell'Europa orientale. Più recentemente, Duncan è stato istruttore di registrazione presso l'Ohio University e istruttore a lungo termine presso la Archie Bray Foundation, il 92Y e il Clay Art Center di New York. Attualmente è professore assistente di ceramica presso la Middle Tennessee State University. Attraverso il suo lavoro di figurazione, Duncan esplora la natura resistente dell'esperienza umana e la complessa politica del corpo umano.
This new work explores the materiality and longevity of the figurative sculptural object as it pertains to the idea of the monument. Although these works are not monumental in scale, they are an extension of my monolith series, where the ceramic surfaces are meant to emulate objects comprised of marble, granite and calcified limestone. During my time at CRETA Rome however, I focused on utilizing a variety of native clay bodies, clay marbling and inlay. This was an attempt to achieve a surface similar to that of the marble sculptures and floors of the churches in Rome. For me, these forms are familiar, but the surfaces offer potential for an exciting new tangent of artistic research. Objects tell a story through surface, as they transform from Raw material into refined sculptural objects. However, that object’s story as it outlives ours can be told by the evidence of wear, being unearthed and repaired as a thing of wonder.

Kelsey Duncan is an American artist currently based in Nashville, Tennessee. Duncan received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Montana and his Master in Fine Arts from Ohio University. He has received multiple artist fellowships that have allowed him to pursue a full-time studio practice through 6 different national and international artist residency programs. His work has been exhibited in group and solo exhibitions throughout the United States and Eastern Europe. More recently, Duncan has been an instructor of record at Ohio University and a long-term instructor at the Archie Bray Foundation, the 92Y and the Clay Art Center in New York. He currently serves as Assistant Professor in Ceramics at Middle Tennessee State University. Through his work in figuration, Duncan explores the resilient nature of the human experience and the complex politics of the human body.
CORVO NERO E LA LUPA

Sono stato attratto dalla Lupa il primo giorno che sono arrivato a Roma, ma non capivo il significato della Lupa. Mi sembrava un animale che assomigliava a un lupo o a una volpe. Poi ho scoperto che la Lupa è un simbolo della fondazione di Roma. Ho visto molti corvi a Roma. Lo trovo molto interessante. In alcuni luoghi dell'Oriente, i corvi sono un simbolo di fortuna e portano fortuna. Ora l'Europa è in guerra e Taiwan sta affrontando da tempo la minaccia della Cina. Durante il mese ci sono state diverse proteste a Taiwan, che mi hanno fatto sentire molto complicato durante il mio soggiorno a Roma. Tutti si aspettano che il mondo sia migliore, ma pensano stupidamente che non fare nulla lo renderà migliore. Spero che un giorno il corvo porterà buone notizie.

Ginar Liu, residente a Taiwan e nota anche come Chi Chun Liu, è da anni illustratrice e scrittrice.
Le sue opere comprendono dipinti e sculture in ceramica con uno stile sincero, infantile ed elegante. Negli ultimi anni, i suoi lavori si sono estesi dai dipinti alle opere tridimensionali, alla costante ricerca di maggiori possibilità di espressione. Grazie al suo background pittorico, utilizza colori e tratti pieni di tensione emotiva come stile unico di creazione della ceramica, dando alle sue opere una varietà di espressioni, catturando emozioni delicate come l'amore e la mancanza, ed esprimendo le sue opinioni e riflessioni sulla vita.
I was attracted to Lupa on the first day I arrived in Rome, but I did not understand the meaning of Lupa. I just felt like this animal that looked like a wolf or a fox. It turned out that Lupa is a symbol of the foundation of Rome. I saw many crows in Rome. I find it very interesting. In some places in the East, crows are a symbol of luck and bring good luck. Now Europe is at war, and Taiwan has been facing the threat of China for a long time. During the month there were several protests in Taiwan that made me feel very complicated during my stay in Rome. Everyone expects the world to be better, but they foolishly think that doing nothing will make it better. I hope that one day the crow will bring good news.

Ginar Liu, based in Taiwan (also known as Chi Chun Liu), has been an illustrator and writer for years.
Her works include paintings and ceramic sculptures with a sincere, childlike and elegant style. In recent years, her works have been extended from paintings to three-dimensional works, constantly seeking for more expression possibilities. Combined with her own painting background, she uses colors and strokes full of emotional tension as her unique style of ceramic creation, giving her works a variety of expressions, capturing delicate emotions such as love and missing, and expressing her own views and reflections on life.
