Queste opere prendono spunto da oggetti di devozione i cui scopi sono quelli di richiedere buona salute. Gli ex-voto e reliquiari cattolici combinano l'ossessione per l'artigianato complesso con una rappresentazione quasi feticistica delle parti anatomiche. Gli oggetti sono decorativi piuttosto che funzionali, scrupolosamente elaborati e ricchi di dettagli, eppure la preghiera che rappresentano è umile. In un certo senso questa ricerca è stata per me la documentazione di una tappa della mia formazione poiché sto accettando l'età adulta e la testimonianza della fragilità del mio corpo e di tutti i corpi amati intorno a me. Le parti anatomiche che ho scelto di evidenziare si basano su malattie di persone che mi sono vicine, alcune curate e altre in attesa di guarigione.

BIO

Lucia Pompetti è un'artista italoamericana i cui lavori in ceramica sono ispirati a studi storici, teologici e familiari. Le sue sculture fanno riferimento a vasi storici, oggetti di culto cattolici tradizionali e allusioni al folklore della sua stessa famiglia. È influenzata dalla sua eredità italiana e utilizza sia temi passati che contemporanei nelle sue opere d'arte. Sebbene abbia studiato per la prima volta ceramica al Bennington College nel Vermont dove si è laureata nel 2019, è cresciuta in un ambiente creativo in cui sia sua madre che sua nonna erano prolifiche artiste multimediali. Dopo la scuola si è trasferita a Barcellona per una posizione come stilista di moda ma è tornata rapidamente alla ceramica dopo il primo picco della pandemia facendo una residenza artistica presso Ceramica Suro in Messico. Ha tenuto la sua prima mostra personale "Icons Wear Clay" nel 2021 al Garage .gpf a Guadalajara, in Messico. Da allora ha completato residenze presso The Watershed nello stato del Maine, e presso C.R.E.T.A. Roma.

This work takes inspiration from objects of devotion whose purposes are to bring good health. The Catholic ex-votos and reliquaries combine the obsession with intricate craft with an almost fetishistic representation of the body. The objects are decorative rather than functional, painstakingly crafted and rich in details, yet the prayer they represent is a humble one. In a way, this research has been a coming-of-age story for me, as I’m accepting adulthood and witnessing the fragility of my own body and that of all the loved bodies around me. The anatomical parts I have chosen to highlight are based on illnesses of people who are close to me, some cured and some waiting to be cured.

BIO

Lucia Pompetti is a New York based Italian American artist whose ceramic work is inspired by historical, theological, and familial study. Her sculptures reference historic vessels, traditional Catholic articles of worship, and allusions to folklore from her own family. She is influenced by her Italian heritage and uses both historical and contemporary themes in her artwork. Though she first studied ceramics at Bennington College, where she graduated in 2019, she grew up in a creative environment where both her mother and grandmother were prolific multimedia artists.After a brief stint as a fashion designer in Barcelona, she pursued a residency at Ceramica Suro in Mexico. She had her first solo show ‘Icons Wear Clay’ in 2021 at Garage gpf. In Guadalajara, Mexico. She has since completed residencies at The Watershed in Maine and at C.R.E.T.A. Rome.
