Prove materiali e manifestazioni di ciò che c'era prima, mi attirano come una falena su una fiamma, una calamita su un muro d'acciaio, un uccello che caccia una scia di briciole tra i ciottoli. Ho segnato questi momenti a Roma collezionando "analoghi". Sto raccogliendo conoscenza.

"relativo o utilizzando segnali o informazioni rappresentate da una quantità fisica continuamente variabile come posizione spaziale, tensione, ecc."

Un momento decisivo nella propria vita è simile a quello divino? Suppongo che dipenda dalla situazione definita a portata di mano, ma entrambi questi stati suonano pesanti e con una direzione di accompagnamento.
Sapevi che puoi trasformare un ago da cucito in una bussola? Penso a mia madre che le cuciva il filo. Il suo ago tira verso qualcosa. Verso il vero nord?
Il rame è stata la mia stella polare materiale, è stata la mia bussola. Penso al liquido nelle bussole, alla sospensione e all'umidità che le fa funzionare. Il rame è sempre stato umido per me. Blu nella sua reattività, colorando e segnando i materiali che tocca mentre trasforma lo stato da solido a liquido.
È un condotto e non si attaccherà a questo muro.

BIO
April Martin è una scultrice basata sul processo che lavora su ceramica, tessuti e metallo. Per lei il fare è il gesto che più riflette l'energia degli esseri viventi; questo include tempo, vento e acqua.
Ha conseguito una laurea presso la McGill University (2009) e un BFA presso la Concordia di Montreal (2014). Nel 2016 ha completato il suo MFA in Scultura presso la School of the Art Institute di Chicago. Ha ricevuto numerosi premi e ha partecipato a residenze ed esposto lavori in Canada, Stati Uniti ed Europa.

Material evidence and manifestations of what was here before, draw me like a moth to a flame, a magnet to a steel wall, a bird hunting a trail of crumbs in between cobblestones. I have marked these moments in Rome by collecting analogues. I am gathering knowledge.

“relating to or using signals or information represented by a continuously variable physical quantity such as spatial position, voltage, etc.”

Is a defining moment in one’s life similar to a divine one? I suppose it depends on the definite situation at hand but both of these states sound heavy, and with an accompanying direction.
Did you know that you can transform a sewing needle into a compass? I think about my mom stitching her thread. Her needle pulls toward something. Towards true north?
Copper has been my material north star, it has been my compass. I think about the liquid in compasses, the suspension and wetness that makes them work. Copper has always been wet to me. Blue in its reactivity, staining and marking the materials that it touches as it transforms state from solid to liquid.
It’s a conduit, and it won’t stick to this wall.

BIO
April Martin is a process-based sculptor working in ceramics, textiles and metal. For her, making is the gesture that most reflects the energy of living things; this includes weather, wind and water.

She holds a BA from McGill University (2009) and a BFA from Concordia in Montreal (2014). In 2016 she completed her MFA in Sculpture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is recipient of numerous awards and has participated in residencies and exhibited work throughout Canada, The United States and Europe.
